The two Poutama designs represent eldest born (Tua Kana) role model, learning, Whanau, ascension to healing, spirituality, community (Iwi)

 

The Poutama binds the S pattern together giving the design as a whale

 

The top Poutama represents the top brain (Roro)

 

The lines do not break on the main body pattern

 

The bottom pattern represents the beginning of recovery

 

Ranginui and Papatuanuku represent parental guidance, love (Aroha)

 

The main body represents Te Ara (The pathway to spiritual prayer)
